The Land Trust of Santa Barbara County
Born in California’s produce basket (the Central Valley), I grew up in rural agricultural towns until moving to Southern California to attend University of California, San Diego. More than 20 years later, I have acquired multiple degrees and decades of experience in public service, communications, and relationship management within the 8th largest city in the nation.
An innate love of natural landscapes, food & wine, and a slower lifestyle had all been drawing me to Santa Barbara. Being there felt a little bit like returning home, but somewhere deep inside.

The Legitimacy Model
The Legitimacy Model started out as a collection of notes and outlines in my phone. They were observations I made, things I wanted to fix, articles that resonated and inspired me to want more for my peers, my employees, and myself. When I found myself referencing them during professional conversations, and trying to sneak them into casual interactions with higher-ups, I decided to formalize it.
The Legitimacy Model is a professional creative outlet, an aspirational working document, and an evolving work of optimism for the foundations of law enforcement and public safety.
Gaslamp Enforcement Team
The Gaslamp Enforcement Team is a proactive bicycle-mounted unit for San Diego Police Department, focused specifically on mitigating violence caused by intoxicated bar crowds in the Gaslamp entertainment district. After a string of negative viral videos, I began integrating internal media upgrades to humanize the team and the work they do. At the same time, I bolstered external communication to improve relationships between officers and business owners.
The result was a marked improvement in internal communications and reputation management, along with more cooperative, functional working relationships in the field that relied more on open communication than enforcement postures.

I have been a writer my entire life, and prior to law enforcement I paid my way as a freelancer. This portfolio features personal and paid writing samples to show a depth and breadth of interests and styles.
